Okay so here is the million dollar question? Photographer vs Videographer, who wins? What, some of you are not exactly sure what a videographer is?
Someone who does videography can be called a videographer. This is just like someone who does photography is called a photographer. What, some of you are not exactly sure what videography is? Here is Wiki’s quick and dirty version of videography.
Videography – The word combines “video” from Latin, meaning “I see” or “I apprehend”, with the Greek terminal ending “graphy”, meaning “to write”. Its contemporary sense is rooted in an article titled “Videography: What Does It All Mean?” (American Cinematographer, October 1972).
So which one is right for your event? Most of the time the answer is both. A photographer does a great job of setting up the really important shots of you and grandma. They also capture a lot of the candid shots during your event. Now a videographer does shoot a lot of the same stuff the photographer shoots but they are able to do it with motion and sound. If you are on a tight budget you might want to decide on doing one or the other. In these days of You Tube and iPods some couples are looking towards video to document their day.
Just think in ten years you could be celebrating your wedding anniversary by looking at your old photo album. When you come across that picture where you are both laughing hysterically, will you remember you were laughing at your uncle dancing the funky chicken? I know as strange as that might sound video will capture those moments when photography will not. Also, important events like blessings and toast are not captured on photos like they are in full motion with audio.
Don’t get me wrong I am not knocking what photographers do or the services they provide. I just am trying to show you how the two are different. Anyways, just some food for thought.
